First Aid Responder (FAR) Training Overview

Our First Aid Responder (FAR) course is PHECC-certified and recognised by the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) as the official standard for workplace first aid training in Ireland.

This course equips participants with the essential first aid skills needed to provide emergency care, handle medical incidents, and assist casualties until professional help arrives. Whether you’re an employee, a community volunteer, or part of an organisation, this training ensures you’re prepared for any medical emergency.

Course Objectives

By the end of this First Aid Responder Course, participants will be able to:

Perform essential first aid skills in emergency situations.
Respond effectively to medical emergencies and assist recovery.
Provide CPR and cardiac first response in critical conditions.
Deliver first aid in the workplace and other environments.

Course Programme

Patient Assessment
– Evaluating injuries & emergency response.
Incident Procedures
– How to manage emergency situations safely.
Cardiac First Response (CFR)
– Performing CPR & AED use.
Common Medical Emergencies
– Handling heart attacks, strokes, seizures, and more.
Injury Management & Shock
– Treating wounds, fractures, and trauma.

Care of an Unconscious Patient
– Recovery position & breathing assessment.
Burns & Electrical Injury Care
– Emergency burn treatment & shock prevention.
Hypothermia & Hyperthermia
– Managing extreme temperature conditions.
Communication & Information Management
– Reporting emergencies accurately.
Well-Being of a First Aid Responder
– Managing stress in emergency response.

Training Methods

Duration: Minimum 18 hours of instructor-led tuition over three 6-hour days (excluding breaks).

Refresher Course Available: A 2-day First Aid Refresher Course is available for participants with an existing valid certification.

This course is ideal for:

No minimum age requirement, but participants should have the maturity and comprehension to understand defibrillation procedures.

Assessment & Certification

Successful participants receive a PHECC First Aid Responder Certificate, valid for 2 years.

Certification meets workplace first aid compliance as required by Irish health and safety law.
